It's the end of my first week of training for the Moonwalk which takes place in May 2011 in London from Hyde Park.
My husband bought me a fan dangled pedometer for Xmas that tracks your number of steps, distance travelled, aerobic steps taken, and for how long, number of calories burnt and again how much fat has been burnt. Which you can then download to your computer to monitor if you are on track. It certainly has got me thinking more about the number of steps I am taking and where I can increase this, so all in all a positive investment.
Week 1 was a bit hard going, I had plotted on my system that I would do 10,000 steps per day, and as I work all week and evenings are dark at the moment, I don't appear to have much time to train, so have managed about 5,000 steps. Which isn't too bad for the 1st week. With all good intentions I planned on walking every lunchtime whilst at work, however I think I managed 2 trips to the shops over the road which is just short of a mile. So not much good actually.
I was planning on getting up early on Friday morning and heading off for an early morning stroll around the village, but unfortunately I was unable to get out of bed early enough and I am kind of glad I didn't go, I think I may have got slightly wet, as it was raining buckets, I suppose rain is better than snow, but hey we are never happy.
There was talks with the other ladies about starting our training and when we would all get together, this proved a bit of a problem as there are six of us all with family's to juggle! Well it was arranged that 2 were going to do Saturday morning and try and do 10 miles in 2 hours and the rest of us would do 3 miles on Sunday.
Sunday came and I was raring to go, ready to walk then as I stepped outside the door I got a bit of shock we had had a heard frost overnight, but I was still determined to do this walk.
I made my way to our starting point and met 2 of the other 3 ladies for our walk, unfortunately 1 lady was unable to make it due to sickness. Hopefully she will be able to join us next week.
We set off at quite a quick pace which I was okay with but as the roads started to undulate I was feeling it in my legs, but persevered and managed to keep up. I was the only one with a pedometer, so was keeping both a track of steps made but also distance travelled. When we finished two hours later we had done over 11,000 steps which was amazing. I got in and plotted exactly where we had walked on a website I use and it advised that we had travelled 5.23 miles, which was excellent for our first outing and as we were only planning on 3 miles it was quite a bonus to find out we had walked as far as we had. Well done ladies.
Once all plotting was done and details added to Facebook to update our ladies on what we had managed I took off my trainers by this time my feet were hurting but I don't think it was to do with the walking, more on the trainers I was wearing. My plan of action for tomorrow is to head to the centre to see about buying a specific pair of trainers for road walking.
I had a few hours rest, before a neighbour called asking would me and the boys like to join her and her dog for a little jaunt to the Pocket Park, I know from experience that this is nearly a 2 mile walk. But I gladly put on my walking boots (much more comfy) and tootled off on this little walk.
Sum up of today is that I have to say that I am quite motivated at the moment having managed over 7 miles today, but dread to think how I will be feeling in the morning, I think I might ache a bit.
Plan of action for this week: -
Find proper walking trainers
Walk 10,000 steps every day
Walk every lunchtime for at least a mile each time
Do long distance walks on both Saturday and Sunday
Week 2 here I come..
